NO DEBT TO THE FLESH

God has had me reading in Romans lately. Not a problem, I love Romans. There is one verse I have come to especially love, lately, Romans 8:12: "Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation--but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it." I LOVE THAT. Other versions use "debtors" rather than "obligation". We are not debtors to our sin nature. We don't owe our old sin nature anything at all. We don't have to follow it's lusts; we don't have to live under the control of the flesh nature's feelings; we don't have to go on being enslaved to anything of our old nature. Christ has paid all the debt. Jesus obliged Himself to a Roman cross, and took all my obligations to my old nature and way of life. In Christ there is only eternal life, freedom, holiness and righteousness. We are obliged; debtors to the new creation, birthed in us by God's own Spirit. God has created in us a new spirit which is made in the image of Christ. We may boldly proclaim "I am in Christ, and anyone who is in Christ Jesus is a new creation. The old has passed away. Behold the new has come!"

Our God is the God who still speaks! Ours response should be that of Abraham, when God called him, "Here I am, LORD!"
